A home amidst Nature

Georgia Sunshine Village - Malavalli

Georgia Sunshine village is situated in Shivanasamudram skirting the Cauvery wildlife sanctuary 120 kms. away from Bangalore and 60 kms. from Mysore. Shivanasamudram is a small hamlet town surrounded by forested hills and lush green valleys. It is here that the river Cauvery divides into two and plummets into a 75 meter deep , rocky gorge to form the picturesque Bharrachukki and the Gaganchukki waterfalls. Downstream from these waterfalls is Asia's first hydro electric power generating station established in the year 1902 by the erstwhile Maharaja of Mysore with the intention of feeding power to the former Kolar gold fields.

Georgia Sunshine Village is nestled in these shrub jungles among rambling hills checkered with farmlands. of coconut and other seasonal crops. This very rugged terrain makes it a true paradise for the adventurous trekker. There are a maze of canals interlinked with tanks that attract a large number of interesting water birds. These water bodies are also teaming with various varieties of fish such as carp, murrel, snake fish , small masheer etc.

Georgia Sunshine Village offers you a totally different experience with peace, quiet and solitude. One can experience the " absolute" feeling of home , the service is personalized with boys hand picked and trained from the locality surrounding. The food is also given the very best attention to ensure that it tastes so close to that which is cooked at home .Thus in short it could be called a "Homestay with a difference" which is truly a place to chill and let your hair down. As the name implies the weather is sunshine most of the year with rainfall being short , sharp spells. Therefore, the weather is " just " cool and clothing generally can be light / casual from mid January to September . December and January could get quite cold especially at night .This is when we would suggest a bonfire to" warm up!!"

Accommodation consists of six spacious rooms , two rooms are family rooms while four rooms are standard rooms, which are set in three well spread cottage blocks. The Family rooms are spacious and have attached toilets that are closed. The standard rooms have attached toilets which are open to sky.

There is an airy lounge where one can just "chill " or relax and read a book from the different books and periodicals available in the library. There is a recreation room that has various indoor games. A television - the only one on the campus for guest viewing!! has a dish TV connection. There is a swimming pool for those who really want to chill. There is a provision to play casual shuttle badminton/volleyball and there is also ample place to play any other game you wish to. There is a provision for a bonfire for those who wish to warm up after chilling out!!- there will be an extra charge for this facility.

A visit to Gaganchukki waterfalls - one could glimpse at the power generating station on the way there.- 14 kms away from Georgia sunshine village. Further from Gaganchukki (approx 10 kms) is the Bharrachukki waterfall. Here one can go right to the bottom of the falls , have a dip in the lagoon formed due to the water falling or just take a casual ride in a coracle. Trekking - this is virgin country for trekking . There are two prominent routes that one can take , either to the Gaganchukki which is about 5kms one way and takes about 1.5 to 2 hrs. The other is up the Kundoorbetta (hill) . This is very strenuous and is better done early morning. You are also at liberty to check out your own route should you like to. All those who wish to go trekking are advised to carry with them a proper hat and sturdy walking shoes.
Wild life safari can be arranged with sufficient prior intimation .The surrounding shrub jungle abound with deer, rabbits , wild boar , peacock , partridge, quail etc. Elephants are normally sited between June to December. If you are extremely lucky you could even spot a panther.

Talakkad is situated on the banks of the river Cauvery 30 kms away from us . The place has buried temples of the 12th century belonging to the Hoysala dynasty that are presently being excavated by the Archeological survey of India, the banks of the river here are sandy resembling an inland seashore. The water level during summer is not more than chest deep and is quite an attraction for many.
