Valley Estate - Coorg, Karnataka
Honey Valley Estate is in the ideal location for holidaying in
south india.It is perfect for walkers, nature lovers and anyone
in need of rest and relaxation. The Honey Valley Estate is situated
in the Western Ghats in the heart of Kodagu (Coorg), about 250
kilometers from Bangalore. Kodagu is the Scotland of India, with
misty green slopes and lush forest, and offers a beautiful location
for walking, bird watching or simply relaxing.
The Honey Valley
Estate is situated in a remote part of Kodagu, near the tallest
peak in the region, Thadiyandamole. It is possible to reach the
1,750 meter peak by foot in three and a half hours from Honey
Valley. Until 1994, the estate was the largest producer of honey
in India (approximately 6.5 tones per year), but disappearance
of the native bees stopped production
The
estate now produces coffee, cardamom and pepper, which are all
grown as ecologicallyas possible.The estate also has a small nursery
of anthuriums. Honey Valley is virtually self-sufficient in many
respects,including electricity which is generated by water power.
Accommodation
is available either in the old house or in the new guest house
(Tranquil) a few meters downhill. The old house has 6 beds on
one side with a bathroom attached (with a western toilet) and
five beds on the other side with a bathroom (with an Indian toilet).
There are two simple double rooms with a common bathroom. 'Tranquil'
has three double rooms with bathrooms attached (with western toilets)
and a large room with ten beds on the first floor with 2 toilets.There
is a simple thatched hut in honey valley which is built by tribals.
