A 3 hour drive from Bangalore city, surrounded by beautiful, serene countryside and lovely quaint villages is the Hoysala Village Resort - Hassan. The Resort is ideally suited for a visit to Belur and Halebid, the seat of the famous Hoysala dynasty. As many as 33 large and comfortable rooms await the visitor at the Hoysala Resort and after a welcome drink you are taken to our cottages in a quaint and rustic setting. Situated 27kms from Hoysala Village, Belur is known as the Dakshina Varanasi. The serenity of Belur is attributed to the celebrated temple of Channakeshava, built by the Hoysala King Vishnuvardhana in 1117 A.D. to commemorate his conversion from Jainism to Vaishnavism. The star-shaped main structure and carvings in black stone, resembling metal are a must see.
Drive 13 km away from Hoysala Village Resort to see the ruins of a century old church which had gone under water with the construction of the dam over river Yagchy. The lower water level in the reservoir has now exposed the church ruins. The splendid architecture of the church and the serene surroundings make an interesting offsite visit.

 
 
 

Halebid is just 15kms from Hassan and was known as Dwarasamudra, the wealthy capital of the Hoysalas in the 12th and 13th century.. Halebid has several strikingly beautiful Hoysala Temples and Jain shrines. The Hoysaleshwara temple, standing on a platform like a casket, is a sculptural extravaganza, richly endowed with most finely detailed scrollwork in stone.
Shravanabelagola 58kms away from here has a 57 feet blue-colored idol of Bhagawan Bahubali in the Kayotsarga posture. Chavundaraya, a general and a minister of the Ganga king Rachamalla engraved this image of Gommateshwara in about 981 A.D. A flight of 650 steps carved into the rocky face of the Indragiri hill, takes you to this awe-inspiring figure carved out of a single piece of stone.
